Happy Monday, my sultans of swing. For today’s installment of MLB DFS, we are tackling the six-game evening slate that begins at 6:40pm EDT. The pickings are typically slim on Mondays, but six matchups ain’t half bad. There will be plenty of studs and value bets to assemble a winning lineup as we aim for some continued success.
As the season progresses, players are starting to show their stripes. That’s extra important today, as rosters are trimmed by two players. Some salaries are going to begin to rise, but there will still be plenty of value available. Let’s find those value bets, and at the end you’ll find my favorite studs to fill out your crew with the money you saved.

Value on the Hill
Drew Rasmussen – at Oakland ($8,300)
After a few short starts while getting stretched out, the starter-turned-reliever-turned starter had a great turn in the rotation last week. Rasmussen went six innings en route to a win without allowing a run. He also turned in a 0.50 WHIP in the performance while striking out nine batters. Rasmussen is unlikely to see more than six innings often this season, but the way he has pitched, he should not need to. The colossal foul territory in Oakland can only help his case today, as long as he doesn’t hang any over the middle.
Zac Gallen – at Miami ($7,600)
Gallen is coming off a start in which he silenced the bats of the Los Angeles Dodgers, though he did not factor into the decision. He allowed just two hits through six innings, and has allowed just one run in three starts on the season (15 innings). The Marlins rank 19th in the league in runs scored, a far cry from the Dodgers at No. 2. Gallen’s 0.60 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 14 Ks in 15 IP should carry him to an easy victory in Miami tonight.
Value in the Field
Sean Murphy, C – vs Tampa Bay ($4,300)
The choice of catchers beneath the first tier leaves a lot to be desired. Many other DFS players will avoid the backstop/DH thanks to his .210 batting average. However, Murphy has come through with four home runs and 14 runs batted in, including a three-run job on Friday night. He is the ultimate boom/bust play, but for the money is a good value while avoiding the bigger money spending on those ahead of him.
Jeff McNeil, 2B/OF – vs Atlanta ($3,900)
Talk about value, McNeil has been a breath of fresh air this season while stuffing the stat sheet. He is hitting a whopping .361 with a dinger on his resume, while scoring 13 runs and driving in 10 teammates. McNeil has also added six walks and stolen a base. That is the kind of versatility needed to score points in daily fantasy, and I expect him to get to Max Fried tonight and end up standing on first several times. The money is a bargain, and he’s likely better played in your lineup at second base.
Max Kepler, OF – at Baltimore ($3,400)
Another sub-$4k steal, Kepler comes in rocking an .888 OPS thanks in part to putting five over the fence. Four of those homers have come in his last six games (16 at bats, in fact), so he’s found his stroke of late. Here is an opportunity to ride the hot hand as he’ll bat against the Orioles’ Tyler Wells (0-2, 5.54). Minnesota is worth a look in this game if you like playing stacks in some lineups. Regardless, Kepler presents a great outfield value and leaves money for your big boppers.
Stud Finder: Anthony Rizzo (1B – NYY), Austin Riley (3B – ATL), Ronald Acuna Jr. (OF – ATL), Byron Buxton (OF – MIN)
Plenty more studs available to fill out your lineup, but this slate presents quite the puzzle unless you punt on a bottom-of-the-barrel pitcher for one of your spots. That’s not a theory that I subscribe to, but whatever strategy works for you is the way to lean.
