The regular season is quickly approaching and the Boston Bruins have made their first round of roster cuts, as they sent seven players to Providence.
The players released were Zane McIntyre, Anton Blidh, Colby Cave, Jesse Gabrielle, Justin Hickman, Zach Senyshen, and Jakub Zboril, Chris Breen, Connor Clifton, Taylor Doherty, Colton Hargrove and Chris Porter.
There are a couple mild surprises among the cut players, but none of these moves were by any means shocking.
The Bruins were hoping Zane McIntyre would push Anton Khudobin for the backup goalie spot, but he hasn’t looked sharp at camp. Demoting him also means the Bruins are willing to give Malcolm Subban another chance to prove himself.
Anton Blidh played well in camp, but didn’t make enough big plays to earn a roster spot.
Seeing Jesse Gabrielle demoted is a disappointment, but the move was warranted. He had a strong showing in camp, but has looked sloppy in the pre season. He took a bad penalty against the Flyers on Thursday as well.
The Bruins roster is coming into shape, but isn’t finalized quite yet.
The Bs have three remaining preseason games, before preparing for their home opener.
They open the regular season on Oct. 6 against the reigning Western Conference Champion
