Brooklyn Nets Under 58.5 1st Half Points (-110) vs Milwaukee Bucks

The Nets will be without Kyrie Irving for this one, in case you haven’t heard. While the overall rotation should not have many issues adjusting to playing with one another, the Bucks are going to be coming off the hype of a championship celebration to kick things off. Milwaukee is going to be rocking and the Bucks should be expected to play with energy and effort defensively because of the energy provided by their crowd.

Add in the easy buckets of Kyrie missing and the Nets have every reason to be limited in their scoring in the first 24 minutes of this one. James Harden will rack up the assists (and turnovers), while Kevin Durant will do a lot of the scoring the Nets do get. Don’t expect a high total in the first half total and definitely don’t expect a lot of scoring from the Nets side of things.

Golden State Warriors +3.5 (-110) vs Los Angeles Lakers

If you were wise enough to jump on this line earlier, kudos to you. It sat around five points for a long time until dropping to +3.5 as the season opener drew closer. At +5 it’s a play to hammer, at 3.5 it is a smart play worth investing in. The moneyline is tempting and if the game is that close it is easy to see why the Warriors will walk away with the win, but we’re confident taking the safety of the 3.5 points regardless.

The Lakers went 2-1 against the Warriors one season ago behind 119.3 points per game. A lot has changed in just one offseason, though. Mainly, the Lakers have essentially overturned their entire rotation outside of LeBron James and Anthony Davis (and Talen Horton-Tucker, who is out with a hand injury for the foreseeable future). The Warriors are still waiting on the return of Klay Thompson. Still, Stephen Curry has shown time and time again he can win his team any game on any day.

While the Lakers adjust to the combination of James and Russell Westbrook, bank on Curry to lead the Warriors to nothing worse than a close defeat. In fact, I wouldn’t count on the Lakers blowing anyone out for the first few weeks of the NBA season.

LeBron James Under 6.5 Assists (-118)

Despite averaging 7.8 assists per game last season, LeBron under 6.5 assists is one of my favorite plays of NBA opening night. Not only does he have the NBA’s assists leader from one season ago joining his team (Westbrook), he also is going to do everything he can to make Westbrook feel comfortable and confident on offense. In the early going that will mean taking a backseat in playmaking and likely a more aggressive role in scoring the ball.

The points are something I don’t want to touch in this one because there’s not much reason to be confident the Lakers score a lot tonight. So, instead of taking LeBron’s over on points, we find great value in his assist under. There’s always risk in taking a LeBron under, especially when it is such a low bar to hit. That being said, Westbrook is going to pace the Lakers in dimes tonight. That makes me confident James stays under six assists of his own.
