Every week billions of dollars are wagered on the NFL. The most popular type of bet is the spread. Each week there are a few games with an appealing spread and others with an ugly spread. To help bettors figure out which spreads they should bet on and which to avoid, two of our NFL writers, Mike Fanelli and Dale Money, give their take on every spread for each of this weekend’s games.
To recap, last week, Mike finished with an 8-6-1 record while Dale finished 7-7-1. For the year, Mike is 37-37-1 while Dale is 43-31-1. Let’s take a look at their picks for Week 6.
As a reminder, we have an early London game tomorrow between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Kickoff is at 9:30 am EST.

The Team to Bet
Mike: Houston Texans +10
Last week, the Texans were eight-point underdogs to the New England Patriots. Coming off a near upset victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week before, many believed the Patriots would blow out the Texans last week. However, Davis Mills had the best game of his young career, and the Texans lost 25-22, covering the eight-point spread. In their previous four games this season, the Texans were underdogs in every game but are 2-2 against the spread. Meanwhile, tomorrow is the first time this season the Indianapolis Colts are favorites after covering the spread in three of their past four games. However, the Colts self-destructed last week against the Baltimore Ravens on national television. While the Colts will win this game, the Texans will be competitive throughout and cover the spread.
Dale: Baltimore Ravens -2.5
It has been virtually impossible for teams to contain Lamar Jackson. He continues to use his speed, athleticism, and scramble ability to leave opposing defenders gasping for air. The Los Angeles Chargers continue to find ways to win, but their run defense remains a glaring problem that could hurt them this week. Both Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman will be relied on to assist in prolonging drives, as keeping Justin Herbert on the sidelines is critical for the Ravens. Furthermore, the Ravens’ secondary has struggled this season. They will get destroyed by Herbert if left on the field for long periods of time. Take the Ravens minus the points.
The Team to Avoid
Mike: Seattle Seahawks +5
Over their last four games, the Seahawks are 1-3 against the spread, with the only cover coming as underdogs in Week 4. However, that came with Russell Wilson under center. Tomorrow, Wilson will miss his first career game, ending his starting streak at 149. Furthermore, the Seahawks will be without Chris Carson, while D.K. Metcalf is dealing with a foot injury. Meanwhile, every game the Pittsburgh Steelers failed to cover this season was against a pro bowl caliber quarterback. Instead, they will face Geno Smith, a career backup quarterback, tomorrow night. Without all their injuries, including their franchise quarterback, the Seahawks will not cover the five-point spread. Unless you can find a book to give you 7.5 or more points, avoid backing the Seahawks.
Dale: Washington Football Team +6.5
The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in a rather precarious position, sitting at the bottom of the AFC West. With his back against the wall, expect Patrick Mahomes to come out firing. Although Mahomes has had his fair share of interception problems, don’t expect it to be a big issue against Washington. The Washington secondary ranks second to last in passing yards allowed this season. Furthermore, they have only two interceptions in their first five games. On the other hand, Washington’s Taylor Heinicke has been hit and miss as a starter this season. Last week, he had his worst performance of the season, throwing two interceptions and zero touchdowns. Expect Washington to get blown out this week against the Chiefs.
