The Philadelphia Phillies added Kyle Gibson to their rotation and Ian Kennedy to their bullpen along with Hans Crouse in a deal with the Texas Rangers. In return, the Rangers get Spencer Howard along with two prospects, pitchers Kevin Gowdy and Josh Gessner.

Gibson is having an excellent season with a 2.87 ERA. The former first-round pick helps the Phillies incredibly as they vie for the NL East crown with the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves who have also made moves.
Kennedy has been a solid closer this season for Texas with 16 saves and a 2.51 ERA along with an impressive 35/7 K/BB rate. He immediately upgrades Philadelphia’s bullpen which has been a sore spot all year.
Howard heads to Texas as a top-notch prospect. He has seen limited time in the Majors over the past two seasons and has struggled with command. He is still only 25 and the Rangers are looking at his upside as a pitcher who could be a stalwart in their rotation for years.
Gowdy is a former second-round pick out of High School who has pitched in Advanced-A this year. Gessner is a signing out of Australia who is still in Rookie ball but has shown flashes of swing-and-miss stuff with 14 Ks in 7.2 innings.
Crouse has been solid this season at Double-A for the Rangers sporting a 3.35 ERA and more than a K/IP.
