Garnett a Tough Guy? Haslem Says No

Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was asked for his thoughts on Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Garnett entering the NBA Hall of Fame next week. He did not hold back on Garnett. While claiming that Duncan and Bryant were tough guys, Haslem disagreed about Garnett being one. According to Haslem, all Garnett did was talk trash.

Here’s his explanation:

Haslem did say that Garnett was a great player, but there is some tension between the two. The Heat captain mentions he did not appreciate the route Garnett took with his trash talking and the disrespect that was involved. During the Miami Heat ‘Big Three’ era, Haslem has had some intense battles with Garnett. So he had the opportunity to see Garnett’s toughness up close and was not impressed.

For years, Garnett has been known to irk opponents both on and off the court with his words. While basketball is a physical sport, the mental part of it is just as important. And Garnett used that part of the game to his advantage. Sometimes he went too far with his trash talking (remember what he said about Carmelo Anthony’s wife?). It’s that kind of approach to his game that Haslem did not respect.
