The Boston Red Sox have acquired outfielder Rajai Davis from the Oakland Athletics.
In exchange for the 36-year-old threat on the bases, who signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Oakland in January, Boston will send minor league outfielder Rafael Rincones to the Athletics.
The deal comes on the heels of the Red Sox being forced to place starting center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a thumb injury.
Davis, who swept an American League-leading 43 bags last season with the Cleveland Indians, is hitting .233 and has five home runs, 18 runs batted in and 26 steals in 2017.
Boston, which lacks a legitimate base stealer, sits seventh in the league in steals per game with 0.62.
This will be Davis’ eighth team since breaking into the league in 2006 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski who signed Davis to a two-year deal in 2013 during his tenure with the Detroit Tigers.
