Welcome to another edition of Cap’n Kielar’s Best Bets! Yesterday was a decent day, as I hit on Oregon State to cover the spread and Nikola Jokic to record over 7.5 assists. Happy President’s Day and let’s win some Ben Franklins!

Overall record: 12-14

Bradley Beal Over 41.5 Points, Rebounds, and Assists

Beal and Russell Westbrook have been the Washington Wizards’ only real contributors this season. Beal is averaging 32.9 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, and 4.5 assists per game. The Houston Rockets come into the game really struggling and Washington has been able to handily beat contending teams. Beal will be battling his former teammate John Wall in this one which will give him extra incentive to put on a show and lead the Wizards in every category.

Joel Embiid Over 27.5 Points

Embiid has been an absolute tear of late and is one of the top MVP candidates thus far. He has hit the over for points in nine of the last 10 games, scoring over 30 in eight of them. The Utah Jazz aren’t terrible defensively, but Embiid is someone that even Rudy Gobert won’t be able to stop. The way he has played, I don’t know if peak Hakeem Olajuwon would have been able to stop him. I also have learned to never fade Embiid ever again.

Zach Lavine Over 29.5 Points

LaVine has been shooting at a great level this season, averaging 28.1 PPG to lead the Chicago Bulls. He doesn’t just shoot well against the bottom feeders either, he scores at a high level against the top teams in the league. The Pacers don’t have much to throw at LaVine to be able to slow him down. Jeremy Lamb and Justin Holiday sacrificing themselves on every play to stop him from getting shots up from behind the arc is their only real chance. LaVine blasts the over to “pace” the Bulls against the Pacers. I’ll be here all week.

Washington State (-7.5) vs. Washington

The Washington State Cougars have played well of late, beating Oregon as 11-point underdogs and UCLA who are third and second in the Pac-12, respectively. They were also competitive against first-place USC but ultimately fell short. The Washington Huskies are reeling, with just three total wins and losing five games by 20 points or more. The final score of their game against UCLA, 64-61, only looked that close because the Bruins couldn’t hit a free throw to save their lives (33 percent). The Cougars are shooting at 77 percent from the line this season and should be able to close this game out by double digits.
