Heller Answers His 3 Burning Questions: Cincinnati Bengals

Joe burrow Bengals

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Cincinnati Bengals

Will Green be healthy and return to Pro Bowl form?

A.J. Green‘s long-awaited return saw him start all 16 games this season. But Green only managed 47 catches for 528 yards and just a pair of touchdowns. All indications as the season came to an end is that Green has played his last down for the Bengals. So, if he does get back to his Pro Bowl form it will be elsewhere, but in all likelihood, his days as a bonafide No.1 receiver are over.

Will No. 1 live up to expectations?

First-overall pick Joe Burrow provided a much-needed spark to the Bengals offense. Although it didn’t translate to many wins, with Burrow at the helm. The team was in many close games. In his 10 games, he managed only two wins and a tie. Four of the seven losses were by five points or less. A torn ACL ended his season prematurely, but once he comes back they have a reason for optimism going forward, given his rookie sample.

Will the secondary Complement Geno Atkins and the defensive front seven?

The defensive unit for the Bengals struggled as a whole. As for Atkins, the 11-year veteran and eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher suffered a right shoulder injury near the end of training camp. The team placed him on the injured reserve late in the season as he never fully recovered from it. Similar to Green, Atkins may have played his last game in a Bengals uniform. The team may decide to spend his hefty price tag somewhere else. The one bright spot for the defense was the play from Vonn Bell and Jessie Bates III. The tandem combined for three interceptions and over 200 tackles this season.
