LeBron James agreed to a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.

The extension is for two years and $85 million, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. James is now signed through the 2022-23 season. At the end of the extension, the star’s career earnings will be close to $435 million. James could become a free agent in 2023 when his son Bronny graduates from high school, and he could try to play alongside his son, should he reach the NBA.

James averaged 25.3 points and led the NBA in assists with 10.2 while steering the Lakers to an NBA title last season. He was also the 2020 NBA Finals MVP, becoming the first player to win that award with three different teams.

The extension is good news for the Lakers. It means that they will remain title contenders for the next three seasons. James thinks that the Lakers can win the title again in the upcoming season.

“We can (repeat). I mean, it’s that simple,” James said recently on an episode of the “Road Trippin’” podcast. “We absolutely can. First of all, it all starts with health. You have to have some luck. You have to have health. If we can stay healthy.”

The Lakers will now shift focus to getting a deal with Anthony Davis done.
