Here’s a look back at the week that was Week 12.

Covid Outbreak 2.0

Earlier in the season, the Tennessee Titans had an outbreak in their organization, that led to the shuffling of games. Leading into Week 12, the Baltimore Ravens had an outbreak of their own. Their Thanksgiving day nightcap against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers was moved to Sunday, then to Tuesday, and once again to Wednesday. With the length of self-isolation players who wouldn’t have been able to play on Thanksgiving were able to on Wednesday.

It Does Exist

Robbye Anderson who has been one of the NFL’s leading receivers in yards and catches, since the start of the season, finally scored his first touchdown as a member of the Carolina Panthers, who he signed with in free agency.

Have a First Half

Titans running back Derrick Henry had three first-half rushing touchdowns against the Colts. Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill compiled over 200 yards receiving yards and three touchdowns of his own. Both continued to make their case that the MVP award may not be a lock to go to a quarterback this season.

No Quarterback, That’s a Problem

After quarterback Jeff Driskel tested positive for Covid, the entire quarterback room for the Denver Broncos was deemed high risk and was forced to self-isolate. The team tasked practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton with signal-callers duties. Although he finished with more interceptions (two) than pass completions (one) he did receive the praise of hall of fame quarterback Kurt Warner on social media.

4 Wins = First Place

The New York Football Giants, after their win over the Bengals, combined with losses by the Cowboys and Eagles, sit atop the NFC East. But they lost quarterback Daniel Jones to a hamstring injury that could cost him to miss a game or two.

Turkey Day Blowout Squared

Thanksgiving football tradition always featured home games for the Cowboys and the Lions. This year both home teams came up way short to Washington and the Texans respectively.

And Gase Still has a Job

Two days after the Lions’ defeat on Thanksgiving, the team announced it was parting ways with their general manager as well as head coach Matt Patricia. Meanwhile, after the Jets fell to 0-11 coach Adam Gase still has a job.

Welcome Back

Week 12 saw the return of Raheem Mostert, Richard Sherman, and Deebo Samuel for the San Francisco 49ers. All three had an impact in their victory over the Rams. The Los Angeles Chargers had Austin Ekeler back on the field as well, although they lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

If You Poke the Beast

Prior to Monday night’s game, Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz had some choice remarks for Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf. It spilled over into the beginning of the game when on back-to-back plays the Eagles defense was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for late hits on Metcalf. Metcalf made him pay and the Eagles for passing on him in last year’s draft, he finished the game with 10 catches for 177 yards.

Revenge Comes up Just Short

Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater took on his former team the Vikings. Kicker Joey Slye missed the potential game-winner as time expired giving Minnesota a one-point victory.
