Week 11 Preview: Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Tennessee Titans (6-3) are headed to the east coast to take on the Baltimore Ravens (6-3). Both of these teams are currently in a slump, having lost two of their last three games. A win for either of these teams would provide a much-needed confidence booster and a potential tie-breaking victory come playoff time.

Tennessee Titans

Tennessee started the season 5-0 but have taken a u-turn as the offense has turned stagnant over the past three weeks. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has struggled the past couple of weeks, failing to total 200 passing yards and throwing just three touchdowns. However, Derrick Henry has continued to put up respectable numbers on the ground totaling 382 rushing yards these past three weeks. The offense has not been able to do much as they have dramatically lost the time of possession battle these past three weeks. This is because of an average to below-average defense.

While the offense hasn’t been incredible, the defense certainly has not been where it needs to be to make the playoffs in the crowded AFC. The Titans currently have one of the worst pass defenses giving up the 28th most passing yards and passing touchdowns. Part of the problem is that the Titans cannot generate enough pressure on the quarterback. Harold Landry currently leads the team with just 2.5 sacks. The team has a total of 11, good enough to tie them for 27th in the NFL. Pair this with a hit or miss secondary and it is a recipe for disaster. While the Titans are sixth in turnovers forced, they have also allowed a 96 QBR rating. Malcolm Butler and Amani Hooker currently lead the team with two interceptions each.

Baltimore Ravens

For Baltimore, this season has been an interesting one. Offensively, the yardage is there, but as you know, bulk yardage doesn’t mean a whole lot when it isn’t being converted into points. This is the case lately for the Ravens. In both of their losses following their bye week, they have put up at least 350 total yards of offense. However, they have only scored 24 and 17 points. Play-calling and forcing Lamar Jackson to throw the ball have resulted in two severe losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. Turnovers have been a huge issue as well. Jackson has thrown three interceptions, three drives have ended in fumbles, and two turnovers on downs in the last three weeks.

Baltimore’s defense has bailed them out for a good part of the season, allowing the lowest amount of points in the NFL. The Ravens have totaled 25 sacks on the season and a pressure rating of 25 percent, putting them seventh in the league. Forcing turnovers has also been positive as they have caused 14, putting them sixth in the league.

Over/Under: O 49.5 (-110)|U 49.5 (-110)

If it were not for how inconsistent the Titans defense is, it would be reasonable to believe they could keep this game within a touchdown. However, Jackson and their offense find redemption this week and take advantage of a subpar defense. Combine this with a stout Baltimore defense, and the Ravens should comfortably win this one by at least a touchdown. Take Baltimore -6 this weekend. The Titans are also 0-3 against the spread when on the road and are just 1-1 when pegged as the underdog.

The point total for this one is tough. On the one hand, Baltimore likely comes out and puts up a hefty amount of points. The question then is how well the Titans’ offense plays this week. Trends tell us that they will likely put up at least 20 points, so take the over this weekend and bank on Baltimore putting up over 30 points.

Prediction

Tennessee may show an advantage early. But as the Ravens offense starts to get into a groove, they will have a comfortable 20-10 lead at halftime. Baltimore will be able to pound the rock from there and mix in the occasional pass over the top with a few Jackson scrambles to keep the Titans defense on their toes through the second half. The Ravens cruise to a 31-20 victory and regain some confidence moving forward.

Final Score: Tennessee 20, Baltimore 31
