Report: Dallas Cowboys Trade Everson Griffen to the Detroit Lions

Within the last hour, the Dallas Cowboys agreed to trade defensive end Everson Griffen to the Detroit Lions for a 2021 conditional sixth-round pick.

After spending nine seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Griffen signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys in the offseason. However, things haven’t worked out in Dallas this season. Griffen has played over 60 percent of the snaps in only one game this season and has register 2.5 sacks in seven games. With the Cowboys unlikely to re-sign Griffen in the offseason, they moved him for what they could.

In 10 seasons, Griffen has played in 154 games, registering 375 total tackles, 89 tackles for a loss, 77 sacks, and nine forced fumbles.

He joins the Lions, who are on a two-game winning streak and require pass rush help. The Lions have only eight sacks in six games, lead by Romeo Okwara with four. Griffen joins a pass rush trio of Trey Flowers, Jamie Collins, and Okwara.

Because of the Covid-19 protocols, Griffen will not be allowed to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, making his first game as a Lion against the Vikings.

For the Cowboys, this may not be the last move they make before next week’s trade deadline. For the Lions, this trade signals that they will be buyers at the deadline instead of sellers.
