The speculation has come to an end. he 49ers and franchise tagged kicker Robbie Gould are seemingly putting an end to what had been thought of as a tense relationship as the two sides agreed to a four-year, $19 million extension, as Tom Pelissero was the first of many to report.

As Zach Links of ProFootballRumors.com writes, “the deal includes $10.5 million fully guaranteed at signing, representing locked in salaries for the first two seasons of the deal. After that, the Niners must decide whether to fully guarantee half of his $4.5 million salary for 2021 before Week 16 of 2020 season, and the other half by the following April.

Gould began his career in 2005 and spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears, earning the lone Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro honors of his career in 2006. In 166 games with Chicago, he connected on 276 of 323 field goal attempts and 379 of 383 extra points. He then went to the Giants with whom he played in a career-low 10 games, quickly leaving New York and finding his way to San Francisco.

Now 36, Gould has connected on 72 of 75 field goal tries since joining the 49ers in 2017, getting his name mentioned with those of high ranks, such has Justin Tucker and Adam Vinatieri.

Gould had requested a trade in April after he had been franchise tagged, seemingly seeking out a deal that would send him back to the kicker-hungry Bears. However, the 49ers were firm on keeping him, and the two sides were able to turn his $5 million tag into a four-year, $19 million contract.
