3 likely landing spots for Russell Westbrook

Which three teams would all-star point guard Russell Westbrook fit best with after reportedly requesting a trade from Oklahoma City last week?

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night which means it appears the Thunder are headed towards a roster rebuild. With the Thunder finding a new direction, all signs point to point guard Russell Westbrook being moved this offseason, too.

This article will explore three teams that provide the best fit for the former MVP guard.

Miami Heat

Westbrook would be a perfect fit for the Miami Heat. The effort he puts in and his tenacity fits well with newly acquired Jimmy Butler. Pat Riley would love Westbrook’s mindset and his win-first mentality. Butler and Westbrook would give the Heat an outstanding one-two punch, and they would definitely compete in the Eastern Conference. Westbrook’s game might have his weak points, like driving recklessly to the basket and his poor perimeter shooting. Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra can help Westbrook harness those skills.

Detriot Pistons

The Pistons are an interesting team for Westbrook. They have the salary to trade for Westbrook, and pairing him with Blake Griffin would be scary. They would be an excellent pick and roll pairing as Griffin can hit the mid-range jumper, and Westbrook’s speed coming off the screen would put fear into opposing teams. If the Pistons can pull off a Westbrook trade, it would help their team drastically. It could take them up in the four or five seed range in the east.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota needs a point guard and trading for Westbrook would help their team in a big way. However, the Wolves probably would have to move Andrew Wiggins in a deal for Westbrook. Karl-Anthony Towns is getting ready to enter the prime of his career, and the Timberwolves do not want to waste it, so pairing Westbrook and Towns would make sense for them. The Wolves are under new management and could be looking to make a splash. Westbrook would be a splash move, and he fits a need at the point guard position.
