WWE Payback Preview: Braun Strowman

Just seven days following the summer’s blockbuster pay-per-view in SummerSlam, WWE will host yet another Sunday event.

Payback interestingly takes place following some fallout regarding two of WWE’s champions. The Fiend, fresh off of capturing the Universal Championship, puts the gold on the line early into his new reign. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is out with an injury after being punt kicked by Randy Orton.

Here are some of the highlights from the match card that was put together in just one week.

Dominik and Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins and Murphy

The personal rivalry continues only this time with the addition of the partners of the two who competed in singles competition last Sunday.

The father and son duo of Mysterio’s will combat two of the superstars who have struck deep into the rivalry that originated between Rey and Seth.

The Master of 619 and The Monday Night Messiah boast two of the most impressive resumes on the current WWE roster. Each will be expected to help boost their counterparts up the company ladder as Dominik made his in-ring debut last week, while Murphy has stuck by Rollins’ side while someone like Austin Theory has not.

Keith Lee vs. Randy Orton

Lee has made his transition from NXT to Raw on Monday in dramatic fashion.

He challenged the superstar who has arguably the most momentum behind him in WWE. Orton was livid during the fallout on Raw after he lost his WWE Championship match due to a backslide pin, and injured Drew McIntyre with punt kicks.

Lee is coming off an incredible ascension to the top of the NXT brand and a matchup with a veteran like Orton should only help him rise up the charts in the big leagues.

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks (Women’s Tag Team Championship match)

The Golden Role Models lost a bit of their glimmer last Sunday.

Sasha Banks dropped her Raw Women’s Championship to Asuka while SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley retained. The two remain Women’s Tag Team Champions, but for how long?

Jax and Baszler present a hostile team of two women looking for revenge. Both have had championship matches this year and came up short in claiming any belt. Now is their chance to do so together, and potentially break up the two women who have had an impressive 2020.

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman vs. The Fiend (Universal Championship match)

What started as a storyline between two former acquaintances turned quickly into who will claim WWE as their yard.

Reigns returned to WWE following the Fiend-Strowman match and cleared the ring with intent. His hunger for returning to the championship scene was boosted following a tease that showed him with Paul Heyman, a longtime manager for Brock Lesnar.

The triple threat match will be a No Holds Barred contest. This adds an intriguing factor as all three men have destructive attitudes, meaning the result of the match could go a number of ways.
