Will Michael Conforto Continue to Shine for New York Mets?

The 2020 Major League Baseball season has yet to begin due to the coronavirus. Many players are waiting to get on the field.

The New York Mets have the potential to be good this season because of their offense that includes outfielder Michael Conforto.

Conforto is most likely going to be playing in center field. He should bat second in the lineup behind Jeff McNeil. Conforto has an excellent swing from the left side of the plate.

He played in 151 games last season, accumulating a batting average of .257 with 33 home runs and 92 RBI, along with seven stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .363 while his slugging percentage was .494. Conforto had a decent WAR at 3.4. He also got caught stealing twice.

In his career up to this point, Conforto has appeared in 578 games with a .253 batting average, 109 home runs, 310 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.

His 2019 home run and RBI totals were career-highs and could lead him to a big contract. He is currently on a one-year deal this season before Conforto will deal with arbitration for the 2021 season.

Michael Conforto would flourish with another franchise if he ever left the Mets, led by an ownership group that fears lucrative offers. It would be a huge mistake for the management group to let Conforto walk; players like Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner have thrived with other teams after they left the New York Mets for a different club.

He is also a better fielder than people have imagined. Michael Conforto can play anywhere in the outfield but could slot in at designated hitter if a universal DH is part of MLB’s season resumption proposal.

Conforto made his way through the minor leagues quickly and was promoted from Double-A Binghamton in 2015; he was one of the reasons why the Mets made it to the World Series before they lost in five games to the Kansas City Royals.

Not only is it a critical year for the New York Mets but also a critical year for outfielder Michael Conforto.
