Why Nelson Agholor is a Perfect Fit for the Colts

Philadelphia Eagles fans had been increasingly upset with the production of Nelson Agholor since their championship season three years ago. During the Super Bowl, Agholor had a career-high 768 yards and eight touchdowns. He played a pivotal role in helping one of the best offenses in the league excel. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich was able to bring out the best in him until Reich got a head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts.

Agholor’s production started to go down. Despite having more catches in 2018, his yards and touchdowns went down. 2019 would bring a lot of doubt and concern among fans and the team. He was responsible for dropping two potential game-winning touchdowns in the regular season and suffered a knee injury that cost him the last five games of the regular season.

He now enters free agency with many questions surrounding his consistency, and if he can come up big in the most important moments of a game. Agholor should have some suitors, as he could be used as a slot receiver in an offense. What is one team that could use his services? The Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts Connection

The move makes a lot of sense for both Agholor and the Colts. Agholor would go into the offense knowing the system and already have a relationship with Reich. The best season Agholor had was under Reich’s direction offense in 2017 and fit well in the slot receiver position. He could play the same role in the Colts offense to help support T.Y. Hilton and the Colts receiving core. Whoever the quarterback will be, whether it is Jacoby Brissett or even someone from the outside like Philip Rivers, they will be able to bring out the best in Agholor.

His best attributes are good speed to take on any nickel corner and does have good hands-on third down. Agholor might not be the best target to throw to in the fourth quarter, but the Colts don’t need him to be the number one guy. The problem in Philadelphia was, DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were banged up early, forcing him to be the man. Agholor wasn’t able to hold up and found himself injured by the end of the season.

It would be a safe option for the Colts as he will not be expensive to sign him if they brought him along for a one year deal. At one point, he was potentially in line for more money with the Eagles, but his lack of consistent performances in 2019 ended those chances. If he can prove that he has what it takes to bounce back in 2020, he might be on his way of getting back to his old form and become an elite slot receiver.
