White Sox Wednesday: Five Bold Predictions for 2020

With the 2020 Major League Baseball season finally getting started within the next two weeks, here are five bold predictions for the White Sox ahead of an unprecedented year.

They will make the postseason.

The White Sox have been in a postseason drought for the last handful of seasons. However, with the additions this team made in the off-season, they should be in good shape to make a playoff run. They added power to the lineup in Yasmani Grandal, Edwin Encanarcion, and Nomar Mazara, and they also addressed rotation depth by signing Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez.

Yoan Moncada will lead the team in batting average, home runs and RBI.

With more depth in their lineup thanks to an active off-season, opposing pitchers will have to pick their poison against the White Sox offense. Moncada, who’s fresh off a contract extension, is set to prove he was worth every penny.

The team will sign Yasiel Puig.

Editor’s note: this piece was written prior to the Braves’ reported signing of Puig.

The rest of MLB has steered clear of Puig, who many consider a cancer in the clubhouse, but Chicago may buck that trend. The White Sox have Jose Abreu, who is a veteran, team leader, and someone who Puig admires. That makes the White Sox an ideal landing spot for him.

Keuchel will return to form.

The former Cy Young award-winning lefty will return to his normally dominant form in 2020. Not only that, but he’ll benefit from the shortened season and leave his mark on the league.

Alex Colome will be lights out.

The White Sox closer who has struggled at times will be solid game in and game out this year. With a 60-game schedule and an improved starting rotation, Colome could very well appear in 40 or more games. He will be as close to automatic as possible during this truncated season.
