On Monday, José Mourinho was sacked as the manager of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The Portuguese manager was in charge of the club for 17 months and leaves the position having failed to make an impact. Additionally, it’s the first time he departs a club without winning any titles and leaves the club with the lowest win percentage of his career.

Spurs Fade After Strong Run

Tottenham is currently in sixth place in the English Premier League. At one point, Tottenham was the best club in the Premier League. After losing their opening game to Everton, the club went on an unbeaten run that lasted 12 weeks. Soon the team would begin suffering many injuries and losing games.

The situation would only get worse. In February, Tottenham was knocked out of the FA Cup, and last month, knocked from the Europa League. On a positive note, they will take on Manchester City this Sunday in the EFL cup final. However, the club’s future remains uncertain.

What’s Next For Mourinho?

Considering his lengthy resume, he should not expect to remain unemployed very long. He can accept a position as a full-time pundit, however he is very likely to pursue another managerial position. A return to managing a Serie A club in Italy can certainly give a much-needed fresh start.

Mourinho has expressed an interest in managing an international team. It would be no surprise if he interviews and receives offers from clubs in France, Spain, or his native Portugal. There are plenty of opportunities out there for him. Mourinho’s resume and success are impossible to ignore. There are clubs that are willing to take the chance of bringing him in.

Mourinho has talked about taking a managerial position for a Major League Soccer club. There’s no doubt his managing skills and knowledge of the game can make a difference and a strong impact in the United States.
