The second meeting between Atlético Madrid and Liverpool takes place tomorrow. This is a rematch of their first Champions League group match that took place last month. Liverpool took the win in the Spanish capital. Atlético is determined to return the favor and take the win in Liverpool. Although Liverpool is 3-0 in Champions League play so far, this match is a must-win. Not just for them, but Atlético as well.
Liverpool has a clear lead in their Champions League group. Atlético trails them by five points. In the latter’s case, they can’t afford to lose back-to-back games. On the other hand, the Reds are looking to increase their lead and protect their position at all costs. As Liverpool is one of the favorites to win the Champions League, they must continue to keep up momentum. At this stage, they can’t afford any mistakes or terrible play.

Liverpool’s Objectives
With a brilliant attack, Liverpool should be able to put the ball into the back of the net. A front three attack consisting of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and Roberto Firmino gives Liverpool a strong advantage. In addition, a formidable midfield only improves the strength of the attack. The sooner the Reds can score, the better. Furthermore, maintaining and adding to a potential lead would be massive. Long story short, Liverpool needs to be at least two steps ahead at all times. It’s all about keeping and maintaining the advantage.
Liverpool’s defense needs to be on top of their game. Although Atlético will be out without Antoine Griezmann, Liverpool will still have their hands full against a respectable Atlético attack. Luis Suárez, Ángel Correa, and João Félix are all likely to be in Atlético’s attacking lineup for this match. Like Liverpool, Atlético has a good midfield set with the likes of Koke, Kieran Trippier, and Yannick Carrasco. No doubt, Atlético’s top priority is to score as many goals as possible as quickly as possible.
Overall, the Reds need a well-balanced team in order to beat Atlético. As simple as it sounds, they need to excel on both the attack and on defense to win. Atlético may be missing one of their top weapons, but they’re still perfectly capable of pulling off the upset. It’s up to Liverpool to prevent Atlético from wreaking havoc.
