The Baltimore Ravens squeaked out a 30-28 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Both teams were in need of a win to keep pace within their divisions. Despite jumping out to a 24-6 lead late in the third quarter, the Ravens allowed Carson Wentz and the Eagles to storm back. After a one-yard touchdown dive by Wentz to pull Philadelphia to within two, the two-point attempt would be stopped short, allowing John Harbaugh’s team to survive and advance to 5-1 on the season.

First Half

A quick three and out by the Eagles would put the ball in the hands of the reigning MVP. The Ravens capped a nine-play 50-yard drive when Jackson found tight end Nick Boyle in the end zone for a seven-yard score. During their opening drive, three different Ravens receivers hauled in passes from Jackson en route to the game’s opening points. After a series of punts by both teams, the Ravens were able to force the contest’s first turnover after a fumble by Wentz set up Baltimore’s offense deep in Eagles territory.

A seven-yard touchdown run by running back Gus Edwards would extend the lead to 14-0. After another sluggish possession by Philadelphia, a 46-yard field goal would extend the Baltimore lead to 17-0 with 12 minutes to play in the opening half. A defensive slugfest closed out the final minutes of the quarter, but the Eagles would offer themselves no help. They committed a turnover on downs followed by a missed field goal.

Second Half

Philadelphia’s defense forced the Ravens to stall on offense with a sack by Malik Jackson. The Eagles were able to gain momentum off the opening drive punt, when running back Miles Sanders broke into a 74-yard run. Despite fumbling the ball five yards short of the end zone, wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside recovered it in the end zone to put his team on the board.

Jackson’s brilliance was on full display again during the following possession. He broke off for a 37-yard touchdown run. Following three and outs by both teams, the game would become very interesting in the final quarter. This time it was the brilliance of Wentz on full display as the former No. 2 overall pick drove the Eagles’ offense down the field in 13 plays. He capped the drive by finding tight end Jason Croom in the end zone to cut the lead to ten at 24-14.

Baltimore responded with two straight Justin Tucker field goals to keep the lead at 30-14 with nine minutes to play in regulation. However, Wentz would find Week 5 hero Travis Fulgham in the end zone to pull his team within one possession. After a Ravens punt, the stage would become set for him to bring his team back once again. After a defensive pass interference penalty on Ravens’ cornerback Marcus Peters, Wentz would lead the Eagles into the end zone. However, the ensuing two-point conversion would come up short, allowing the Ravens to survive a thriller and advance to 5-1 on the season.

Highlights

Dropping to 1-4-1 on the season after two straight hard-fought losses, the Eagles will look to get back in the win column in their game against the New York Giants on Thursday night. Looking to keep pace in the ultra-competitive AFC North, the Ravens will use their upcoming bye week to prepare for a showdown with the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8.
