Looking to build off their first win of the season in Houston last Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings traveled to Seattle to battle the red hot Seahawks on Sunday night. After struggling mightily in the first half, Pete Carroll’s team used a three-touchdown stretch to march back into the game. Turning a 13-0 deficit into a 21-13 lead. A back and forth affair in the second half, once again it was the brilliance of Russell Wilson on full display as he found second-year wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in the back of the end zone, with 15 seconds left on 4th and goal to seal the win and remain unbeaten.

First Half

Opening up the game on offense, Kirk Cousins and the Vikings offense were able to use a 12 play 77-yard drive to open the scoring on an eight-yard touchdown scamper by Dalvin Cook. Holding the ball for over six minutes on the drive, the team converted a fourth and two along with a third and eleven to keep the drive alive and ultimately find the end zone. Moving the ball effectively on their first possession of the game, Seattle’s offense ultimately became bottled up in Minnesota territory.

A false start penalty and a sack on 2nd & 13 forced the team to punt. Unable to stop the Vikings ground attack in the first half, once again, it was the tandem of Cook and Alexander Mattison carving through Ken Norton Jrs group, rushing for 43 yards on their next possession to give Minnesota a 10-0 lead with 8:39 to play in the half. After punts on the game’s next three possessions, Kirk Cousins and company were able to move the ball into Seattle territory before halftime. Throwing for 44 yards on the drive, a field goal by kicker Dan Bailey would put his team up 13-0 heading into the break.

Second Half

Appearing to wake up on offense after an abysmal first 30 minutes, a 19-yard strike by Wilson to tight end Will Dissly cut down the Vikings lead to 13-6 with 9:55 to play in the third quarter. Taking advantage of strong field position after a Vikings punt, Seattle moved the ball with ease, taking just four plays and a minute and forty-two seconds off the clock to complete the scoring drive. Flipping the momentum of the game on their next turn on defense, Seahawks defensive end Damontre’ Moore was able to force a fumble deep inside Minnesota territory to set his team up at the Vikings 15-yard line.

Making quick work on offense a 14-yard touchdown reception by Metcalf would put the Seahawks up one midway through the quarter. Falling apart completely from what they built in the first half. A Kirk Cousins interception on the game’s next possession followed by a 29-yard touchdown run by Chris Carson gave Seattle a commanding 21-13 lead while taking the air out of the Vikings sidelines with three touchdowns in two minutes. However, Kirk Cousins and company were not going away quietly on this day as back to back touchdown receptions by receiver Adam Thielen would give the Vikings the lead with seven minutes to play.

Trying to tie the game up on their next turn on offense, a rare bad decision by Wilson would result in an interception by Eric Wilson to set Minnesota up to run out the clock and hand Seattle their first loss of the season. Coming down to a fourth and one to wrap the game up. Cousins and company were unable to convert with Mattison being stuffed short of the line to gain. This set the stage for late-game heroics by Wilson. Shining his brightest in crunch time like he has all season, the early leader for MVP would lead his team down the field once again, finding Metcalf in the end zone on fourth down to give Seattle a thrilling 27-26 victory.
