Week 5 Recap: Los Angeles Rams vs. Washington Football Team

The Los Angeles Rams were expected to make easy work of the Washington Football Team and did just that on Sunday. The Rams got ahead early and didn’t look back as they beat Washington 30-10.

Jared Goff had an incredible day where he had two touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. The trio of Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson, and Malcolm Brown shredded the Washington defense for 129 yards. Henderson had two touchdowns on the day including a receiving one. The receiving trio of Gerald Everett, Cooper Kupp, and Robert Woods had 13 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown. The Rams defense put pressure on both Kyle Allen and Alex Smith all day as they compiled eight sacks. Aaron Donald had four sacks on the day, while Troy Reeder had three, and Jachai Polite had the other one.

The combination of Allen and Smith went 18-30 for 101 yards. A whopping 11 of those completions went to running backs as J.D. McKissic had six catches, and Antonio Gibson had five. Terry McLaurin had a quiet game as he only caught three passes for 26 yards. The offensive line was horrendous as they didn’t give either quarterback ample time in the pocket and couldn’t create any running lanes for the running backs. Washington needs to give Gibson more opportunities as he and McLaurin are the only playmakers for this offense. Gibson had 11 carries where he only averaged 2.5 yards per carry. Montez Sweat recorded the lone sack for Washington, and Kendall Fuller picked off Jared Goff.

This game went about as expected. The Rams got ahead early and didn’t let up. With Allen’s injury, it now opens the door for Smith to become the starter, which many thought was impossible following his gruesome injury. It was incredible to see Smith take the field finally. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result he wanted as Washington fell to 1-4 and will look to put their season back on track against the New York Giants next week. The Rams, who are now 4-1, have a huge matchup next Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.
