Week 5 Recap: Indianapolis Colts vs. Cleveland Browns

The Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns both came into the game with records of 3-1. Unfortunately, only one left 4-1 while the other left 3-2. This was expected to be one of the best games of the week, and it was as the Browns won by a score of 32-23.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts came into the game with two key injuries as Anthony Castonzo and Darius Leonard missed the game. Castonzo’s replacement, Le’Raven Clark didn’t have a good game as he was the weak link on the offensive line. Fortunately for him, his mistakes were overshadowed by Philip Rivers throwing two interceptions. Rivers has shown once again why the Colts weren’t ready to give him a multi-year contract as he had two costly picks, one which resulted in a pick-six. On the ensuing kickoff, Isaiah Rodgers had a 101-yard kickoff return touchdown, which kicked the Colts into gear, but ultimately it wasn’t enough.

Indianapolis came out of the half down big but went away from the rushing attack, which was a mistake. Jonathan Taylor was averaging almost five yards per carry on his 12 attempts where he totaled 57 yards and a touchdown. T.Y. Hilton finally showed what the team had been missing as he caught six passes for 69 yards. Trey Burton has been a big factor in the offense since he returned from injury last week and has phased Mo Alie-Cox out of the lineup. Anthony Walker and Bobby Okereke each had an interception defensively.

Cleveland Browns

Baker Mayfield got off to a hot start but cooled off towards the end of the game where he threw two interceptions that almost cost the Browns the game. His two touchdowns went to Rashard Higgins and Kareem Hunt. Hunt had 23 touches in the game for 93 yards and a receiving touchdown. The tandem of Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry combined for nine catches 146 yards. A big turning point in the game was when Ronnie Harrison picked off Rivers and returned it to the house. Sheldrick Redwine had the other interception. Myles Garrett had the lone sack for Cleveland. Cleveland’s defensive plays were the keys to getting this win, as the pick-six was the margin of victory.

The Browns are 4-1 for the first time since 1994. They will look to continue their success as they go against the Pittsburgh Steelers next week in what is a huge AFC North matchup. Meanwhile, with Indianapolis dropping to 3-2, they have a get right game against Cincinnati next week.
