Week 5 Preview: Miami Dolphins vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers come into this Week 5 matchup after losing their Week 4 matchups. The Dolphins fought hard but were cut down to size by the Seattle Seahawks, and the Niners were upset by a winless Philadelphia Eagles team. The storyline coming into this game will be if Jimmy Garoppolo will be able to find receivers down the field against the weak Dolphin secondary.

Miami Dolphins

The key for the Dolphins will be to attack San Francisco’s weakened defensive line. They’ll do this with their feature backs, Myles Gaskin and Jordan Howard. Howard has always had the Niners number, as he has four rushing touchdowns in three career games vs San Francisco. Dolphins quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick will need to get the ball to Devante Parker, who had a career game last week. On the defensive side of the ball, Kyle Van Noy has two forced fumbles in his last three games, so the Niners will need to keep the ball tucked tightly around his crafty arms. The Miami defense doesn’t turn down opportunities, so San Francisco will need to go mistake-free as to not give the Dolphins a free possession of the football.

San Francisco 49ers

The Niners must keep control of the ball with their running game to have a chance in this game. George Kittle is an integral part of both the running game and the passing game, especially after he had a career game last week and got to the 3,000 receiving yards milestone in 47 games. On the defensive side, the 49ers will need Fred Warner to step up and play at the level he played at during the Eagles game. The whole defensive line will need to attack the weak Dolphins offensive line to pressure Fitzpatrick into making the mistakes he occasionally makes.

Moneyline: MIA +330 | SF -430

Over/Under: O 51.5 (-110) | U 51.5 (-110)

Even though nine points is a big spread, the 49ers are getting back several players from injuries and that should provide a shot in the arm to the offense. Don’t expect the Dolphins to remain in this game come the fourth quarter. Take the 49ers minus the nine points as they will win by double digits.

Prediction

This game should be an easy win for the Niners on paper, but since they lost to the Eagles last week, who knows. The Dolphins don’t match up well with the 49ers, and because of this, San Francisco will dominate all game long and cruise to victory. The Niners defense forces four turnovers, and in the final quarter of the game, Dolphins backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will get a chance to take some snaps.

Final Score: Miami Dolphins 13, San Francisco 49ers 34
