The San Francisco 49ers will play at Metlife Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the second week in a row, facing the New York Giants this week. The Giants lead the all-time series between the teams, 17-16, and have won the last two of three games.

Both teams enter Week 3 battered with the 49ers losing Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas, Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert, and Jimmy Garoppolo in last week’s matchup against the New York Jets. The Giants also were affected by injures when star running back, Saquon Barkley, suffered a torn ACL in the Giants’ game against the Chicago Bears.

San Francisco 49ers

Despite the numerous injuries the 49ers during the game against the Jets last week, they secured the 31-13 victory in the first road game of the season.

Offense

Nick Mullens will start the game on Sunday, his first start since 2018. Mullens completed 8-11 attempts for 71 yards last week and in the last meeting between these two teams, he passed for 250 yards and a touchdown.

Jerick McKinnon rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown last week, including a 55-yard run, which was his career fourth rush of more than 50 yards. He is aiming for his third game in a row with at least one touchdown.

Kendrick Bourne led the team in receiving yards last week when he posted four receptions for 67 yards while rookie Brandon Aiyuk recorded 21 receiving yards in his NFL debut.

Jordan Reed was the 49ers saving grace against the Jets with seven receptions for 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Kerry Hyder recorded his career-high eight tackles last week, Emmanuel Moseley posted two pass deflections, and K’Waun Williams has recorded two tackles for loss, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble in his past three games on the road.

New York Giants

The Giants lost against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, 17-13. The offensive line will be the factor in whether or not the team remains winless after this week.

Offense

The Giants’ offensive line has to do a better job at protecting Daniel Jones who was sacked four times last week after three in Week 1. Jones was 25-40 for 241 yards, and an interception with a dismal rating of 68.9.

Dion Lewis posted 56 scrimmage yards in Week 2 and recorded 29 in his last game against San Francisco in 2016 when he played for New England.

Golden Tate had five catches for 47 yards last week and is going for his third game in a row at home with at least one touchdown reception and his fourth game in a row overall with five or more receptions.

Darius Slayton leads the NFL with four games in a row with at least two or more receiving touchdowns, including recording three receiving touchdowns in the last three home games. Evan Engram led his team last week with six receptions and 65 receiving yards.

Defense

Blake Martinez led the Giants with eight tackles and posted his 11th career sack in Week 2 and is aiming for his fourth consecutive game with tackles for loss. Martinez has led the NFL with 462 tackles since 2017.

Kyler Fackrell recorded his first sack with the Giants last week, while Lorenzo Carter also posted a sack in Week 2 and recorded seven tackles and three tackles for loss in the last meeting between the teams.

Logan Ryan posted six tackles and a forced fumble last week against the Bears. Julian Love recorded his second career interception last week and James Bradberry posted an interception and tied his career high pass deflections with four.

Point Spread: SF -3.5 (-110) | NYG +3.5 (-110)

Moneyline: SF -185 | NYG +150

Over/Under: Over 42 (-110) | Under 42 (-110)

The under is probably the safe bet this week as the San Francisco offense has taken a pretty large hit with injuries, while the Giants have had decent defensive production.

Prediction

Even though the 49ers are a pretty battered team, especially this early in the season, they have talent deep into the roster and will be able to secure the victory against the Giants. The score will reflect the injuries and it will be a low scoring game on both sides.

Final Score: San Francisco 49ers 24, New York Giants 13
