UMass Sinks 12 3’s in 72-62 Win Over Georgia

UMass connected on 12 of 22 looks from beyond the arc in a 72-62 win over Georgia on Saturday.

Eight of the 12 makes – including a 4 of 4 showing from Carl Pierre – came in the first half as UMass led 43-24 at the intermission.

Georgia was able to slice its deficit to as little as eight in the final 11 seconds, but it was too little too late as the Minutemen held on for the victory.

UMass, which never trailed, darted out to an 8-0 lead – sparked by five points from Luwane Pipkins – just 1:42 in.

Pipikins paced the Minutemen with 17 points and Pierre added 15.

UMass looks to extend its winning streak to four when it hosts Georgia State (7-4) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

More Money, More Problems.

I took a casual poll on whether or not college athletes should be paid or compensated when their respective university uses their image or likeness. The results were not as I expected. Out of about 100 people who responded, 72 of them said that college athletes should not be paid. This sample included people who had played and who were passionate about college athletics, people who were recently out of college and people who have been graduated for a long time. I personally voted that they should be compensated for their image being used for marketing or recruiting and in a way, they are with scholarships. But we all know that scholarships can only help so much.
