Two-Start Pitchers: Week 13 (6/24 – 6/30) and Streamer of the Week

Matt Bishop | June 24, 2019

STREAMER OF THE WEEK

Adam Plutko, SP CLE

(48% CBS, 4% ESPN, 10% Yahoo)

(3-1) 4.55 ERA 1.12 WHIP 7.16 K/9 0.98 BB/9

16.8% K-BB% 2.93 HR/9

Adam Plutko is 27 and only has 108.0 innings of major league service on his resume, but he has been relatively solid since his call up on 5/18 and could be a nice fill in this week. While his ERA is drastically inflated from a 7 run outing on 5/23, his peripherals (4.55 ERA 6.24 FIP 5.03 xFIP) are greatly skewed by a 2.93 HR/9, which is the 9th worst rate in baseball (minimum 20 IP). But there is hope:

SEASON STATS:

While his microscopic 0.98 BB/9 is impressive, his 9.8% swinging strike rate and 7.16 K/9 leave something to be desired. But he has been impressive in his last 3 starts:

LAST 3 STARTS:

(2-0) 3.31 ERA 0.98 WHIP 8.39 K/9 0.56 BB/9

21.2% K-BB% 2.24 HR/9

While he has allowed 4 home runs in these 3 starts, the batting average against each of his offerings is drastically decreasing, while 3 of his 4 pitches are carrying double digit swinging strike rates.

Pluto still could potentially lose his job in the starting rotation, but if he gets the nod this week, he could offer a high floor (low walk rate) with some sneaky strikeout upside.
