Torey Krug Struggling at the Start of the Season After Broken Jaw

The Boston Bruins’ 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Saturday was ugly. Blowing a three-goal lead is never a good thing, but it’s even worse when you did it at home against a mediocre team.

Boston allowed five goals in the contest and while many will pin it on the loss of Anton Khudobin, the Bs defensemen were sloppy.

It’s been a pretty mixed bag for the Bruins defense overall so far this season, and part of that is due to the play of Torey Krug.

After Zdeno Chara, Krug has been one of the Bruins’ most consistent defenseman over the last four years, but he’s off to a rough start.

The 26-year-old is coming off a career worst plus minus of -10 and suffered a fractured jaw in the middle of the pre season.

Krug only missed the team’s season opener against the Nashville Predators, but he’s looked off in the six games following his return.

He has a goal and an assist in the early going, but he currently has a concerning plus minus of -8. That’s not ideal for a guy who has only played six games.

In Krug’s defense, the team currently has a rash of injuries, including losing Adam McQuaid for two months to a broken fibula, and has struggles across the board, but if the Bruins want to improve the defense, they need one of their anchors to improve his play.
