Two Predictions for the Lakers’ 2020-2021 Season

Three bold predictions for the Lakers' 2020-2021 season

The Los Angeles Lakers are the defending champions and have a bullseye on their back, so will they be able to repeat? Time will tell but first, let’s make some predictions.

The Lakers are coming into the season as the favorites to win the championship again this season after being the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals a little over two months ago.

They lost a couple of key players such as Rajon Rondo, but some believe they improved their roster and won the offseason even after winning their 17th title. It’s time to make some predictions.

1. The Lakers will repeat

Maybe this isn’t very bold, but picking a team to win it all needs to be included here. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are back and Rob Pelinka was able to steal Montrezl Harrell away from the rival Los Angeles Clippers to be their sixth man off the bench.

Marc Gasol will add some stability to the center position and Dennis Schroder is an underrated guard that could be better than Rondo was for them last year.

The Clippers could be a threat to the Lakers this year but they shouldn’t be worried until Paul George can perform in the playoffs when it matters most. While the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks are talented and have superstars on their rosters, they aren’t nearly as deep as Los Angeles is, so it will be difficult for them to dethrone Frank Vogel’s team from being the champions.

2. LeBron will win his fifth MVP

LeBron James is like the Mike Trout of basketball. You could give him the MVP nearly every single season but it would be boring for the voters and they like to spread it around.

But if LeBron can continue to be the best player in basketball in what will be his 18th season in the NBA, then they have to reward him with the MVP. Last year was LeBron’s 16th straight season that he averaged at least 25 points a game and he had a career-high in assists (10.2), which led the league.

Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Kevin Durant will likely be in the running for the award but if the Lakers finish in first place in the West, LeBron will be a big reason why.
