1974 – UCLA’s men’s college basketball’s 88-game winning streak ends with a loss to Notre Dame, who ironically is also credited with ending the longest winning streak in college football history.
2002 – The infamous Tuck Rule game with an obvious Tom Brady fumble … or so it seemed. This was ruled an incomplete pass against the Raiders.

1985 – The 49ers defeat the Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX, 38-16. Joe Montana is named MVP.
1989 – Mario Lemieux becomes the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in less than 50 games (44).
1991 – The Bills defeat the Raiders in the AFC Championship, 51-3. Meanwhile, the Giants defeat the 49ers, 15-13, in the NFC Championship.
2000 – The final pass of Brett Favre’s career with the Packers ends with an interception, allowing the New York Giants to advance to the Super Bowl on a Lawrence Tynes field goal.

1984 – Raiders defeat the Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII, 38-9. Marcus Allen is named MVP.
1987 – During a blizzard in New Jersey, only 334 fans attend the Devils’ 7-5 win over the Flames.
1988 – Mike Tyson TKO’s Larry Holmes in the fourth round to remain the undisputed champion.
1989 – The 49ers defeat the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII, 20-16. Jerry Rice is named MVP.
2006 – Kobe Bryant scores 81 points against the Raptors.
2012 – Famed Penn State coach Joe Paterno passes away at 85.

1983 – In the infamous “Mud Bowl,” the Dolphins defeat the Jets, 14-0. The field conditions eliminate the Jets’ advantage entirely.
1998 – The Denver Nuggets tie the NBA record for consecutive losses (23).
1998 – Michael Jordan scores double figures for the 800th consecutive game in the Bulls’ win over the Nets.
2000 – The Titans defeat the Jaguars in the AFC Championship. The Titans were the culprit for all three of Jacksonville’s losses that season.

2018 – Former U.S. Olympic doctor Larry Nassar is found guilty of molesting over 150 girls/women. He is sentenced to 150 years in prison.
