1959 – Vince Lombardi signs a five-year contract to coach the Green Bay Packers.
1997 – Detroit Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman becomes the first coach in NHL history to win 1,000 games.
2014 – The Seahawks defeat the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, 42-8. Malcolm Smith named MVP.

2002 – The Patriots defeat the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, 20-17. Tom Brady named MVP.
2008 – The Giants defeat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, 17-14. Eli Manning named MVP.
2013 – The Ravens defeat the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, 34-31. Joe Flacco named MVP.

2011 – The Packers defeat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, 31-25. Aaron Rodgers named MVP.

2000 – Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas passes away from a pulmonary embolism at 33.
