The New York Jets are going all in on making it to the postseason for the first time since 2010.
Long suffering fans of the New York Jets are thirsting for a return to relevance.
When “Broadway” Joe Namath made good on his famous guarantee that the Jets, prohibited underdogs to the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, would win the game, virtually no one then could ever speculate that the Jets would not return to Super Bowl again.
Aside from sporadic success in the interim, the Jets have been the laughing stock of the league for most of the last fifty years.
All along the way, Jets fans have stood by their much-maligned team only to be let down year after year.
Heading into 2019 however, there’s an air of optimism circulating in the atmosphere of the Gang Green Nation.
Personnel moves made by the Jets front office are the fuel that fed the fire.
First, in a move that surprised no one, they fired head coach Todd Bowles after four years and replaced him with former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase.
Then the Jets then went out and inked the enigmatic and ultra-talented running back Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) to a four-year deal reportedly worth $52 million, with $25 million guaranteed.
Finally, in a move that showed they meant business, former Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley and the Jets came to terms on a five-year deal worth reportedly $85 million over five years, making Mosley one of the top paid players at his position in the NFL.
The additions of Bell and Mosley will make the Jets instantly better.
With the upcoming draft just around the corner, the Jets will most likely look to bolster the offensive line with a player like tackle Jonah Williams from Alabama who is generally considered the best available player at his position in the draft.
One thing is sure, for the first time in a long time, it appears that the Jets organization are tiring of playing second fiddle to the New England Patriots and are counting on Bell and Mosley to guide them out of the wilderness of ineptitude and lead them back to being relevant again.
