Yesterday’s Biggest Games

#19 Rutgers 74 vs. Maryland 60

The Scarlet Knights opened up their Big Ten conference schedule with a win over the Terrapins. Ron Harper Jr. went off, scoring 27 points in 30 minutes. Rutgers moved to 5-0 with the victory and will face #13 Illinois on Sunday.

They can move up the rankings pretty quickly if they can stay undefeated through their next two games. In addition to playing a ranked team in the Fighting Illini, they’ll also play #20 Ohio State on Dec. 23.

Upset Alert: Marquette 89 vs. #8 Creighton 84

The Golden Eagles are the upset kings this season, as this is their second upset of a top-10 team. They beat Wisconsin (previously ranked #4) and now #8 Creighton.

A big factor in why they were able to beat Creighton was their ability to spread the ball around. D.J. Carton led his team in scoring with 20 points and was one of four players that scored at least 14.

Creighton made less than 50 percent of their field goals and was only able to muster 40 points in the second half, compared to Marquette’s 54 in the final 20 minutes.

The Bluejays might slip in the rankings but they have a chance at redemption against St. John’s on Thursday in Queens. Marquette improves to 5-2 and could be ranked in the next couple of weeks, especially if they beat #7 Villanova on Dec. 23.
