Villanova’s matchup against Texas came down to the wire and Kentucky was also in action yesterday. We’ll also get you ready for Monday’s slate of games.

Welcome to today’s Daily Dunk where we recap all of college basketball’s biggest games from yesterday and give you a look at the matchups to watch later today!

Note: Gonzaga has paused all team activities through Dec. 14, per a team release. That would cancel their next four games. They will be able to practice Dec. 15 in preparation for their scheduled matchup against #3 Iowa on Dec. 19. The Bulldogs had to postpone their game against second-ranked Baylor on Saturday due to two positive tests inside the basketball program.

Yesterday’s Biggest Games

#12 Villanova 68 vs. #17 Texas 64

Two ranked teams went at it on Sunday afternoon while you were probably watching football. It was a very entertaining game, as it was 64-62 Villanova with 15.4 seconds to go. Collin Gillespie was on the free-throw line and made both shots to make it a four-point game before Texas went back up the floor and made a layup to close it to a two-point deficit with eight seconds remaining.

Of course, the Longhorns immediately fouled, but it was the wrong guy. Gillespie again went to the free-throw line and nailed both to seal it. Gillespie finished with 12 points (4/5 FT) while Jeremiah Robinson-Earl scored 19 points and added eight rebounds.

#11 West Virginia 80 vs. Georgetown 71

West Virginia might just get into the top ten this week after improving to 4-1 with their win over the Hoyas. They played the best team in the country this past week and only lost by five points. Miles McBride scored 17 points with seven assists and seven rebounds while Derek Culver dropped 14 with nine boards.

The Mountaineers will play another ranked team in Richmond next Sunday after a date with Robert Morris University.

#20 Kentucky 62 vs. Georgia Tech 79

Kentucky was in trouble at halftime, as they were trailing and turnovers were a problem, with 13 in the first 20 minutes of play. It didn’t get much better in the second half, as the Wildcats were down by 15 points with about seven minutes to go and ended up losing by 17.

Kentucky drops to 1-3 on the season for the first time since 2000 after three straight losses to unranked Richmond, #7 Kansas, and unranked Georgia Tech. It would be a surprise if they are ranked when the new AP poll comes out.
