The Daily Dollar: Gambling Picks for 5/6

Greetings, my fellow gamblers living your best debauched lifestyle. It’s time for another edition of the Daily Dollar’s gambling picks, because who doesn’t need to pocket a few bucks headed into the weekend? We have a couple big NBA battles on tap tonight. The Philadelphia 76ers and Dallas Mavericks are each in an 0-2 playoff hole and finally get to play on their home courts. Can they tighten up the series, or do the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns remain in full control?

There is money to be made on these games, and it’s high time to put that money in our wallets. If you’re good, maybe I’ll drop a MLB bet at the end to jump on while you’re at it.

Make sure to check out all of our gambling picks here.

Miami Heat -1.5 (-110) at Philadelphia 76ers

When Joel Embiid went down prior to the series, there was little doubt that Miami would control it. What was only moderately surprising was the manner in which they did. One would have expected Doc Rivers to formulate a more unorthodox plan to attack the Heat rather than playing the game straight up without his big man. Then again, it’s hard to just dismiss the impact of a star player averaging over 30 points, just under 12 boards, and four assists per game. In short, the 76ers hands were tied. Embiid looks like he has about a 50/50 chance to play tonight. Even if he does, that does not change the fact that Miami still smells blood in the water. Expect Philly to come out pumped up for Game 3 at home, but they just cannot hang against the Heat even with a possible boost from their big man. Jimmy Butler goes off, and Miami covers on the road.

Book it: Heat -1.5 points (-110) over 76ers

Phoenix Suns at Dallas Mavericks o218.5 (-110)

Each of the first two games of this series hit the over, and I see that trend continuing. Dallas returns home down 0-2, and there is no reason to think that the Suns won’t continue their M.O. of pushing the ball and trying to wear their opponent down. While Dallas spent time this season slowing games down and relying on their defense, they are certainly capable of running when they need to. They also are coming off a Game 2 where they were beaten like a drum by 20, so there’s a level of pride involved in this one. These two teams averaged over 222 points combined during the regular season. Both should exceed their averages in this contest. Another big game from Luka Doncic will be enough to push this over the total in front of their home crowd. Phoenix likely still wins this one, but not without a lot of fireworks along the way.

Book it: Suns and Mavericks over 218.5 points scored (-110)

MLB: Kansas City Royals at Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (+160)

Kansas City currently resides in the cellar of MLB runs scored per game at 3.04. They are having a tough time getting on base, let alone getting guys across the plate. The Orioles aren’t much better at 3.38/game, but the pitching matchup in this game tips the scales towards the birds. Jordan Lyles comes in with two wins (one of which was a shutout), and you probably would not want him pitching to, say, the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, against a toothless Royals lineup, he should keep them down for five to six innings. Meanwhile, Kansas City sends righty Carlos Hernandez to the bump. Hernandez is having a rough go in 2022, and couldn’t find the plate if it hit him in the face. He has issued 10 walks in 18 innings, is averaging four strikeouts per nine innings, and carries an ugly 1.89 WHIP. The Baltimore batter should feast as long as they are patient, and the spread has a nice little payout.
