The Bruins Finally Demoted a Left Winger, but It Was Long Overdue

On Fri. the Bruins placed twenty nine year old left winger Matt Beleskey on waivers after back to back dreadful seasons.

Beleskey managed to clear waivers and has since been demoted to the Bruins AHL affiliate in Providence.

The Bruins signed Matt Beleskey to a five-year $19 million deal in the summer of 2015, but he never managed to produce consistently.

In his first season in Boston, he racked up 37 points and was +6 on the ice. His play started to go down hill after that.

From the beginning of the 2016-2017 season until now, he has only produced eight points and is a staggering -18 when in play.

The Bruins’ move to demote Beleskey was undeniably the right call, however it took far too long to become a reality.

Even as the team as managed to find some success over the last year, Beleskey has been holding the team back.

In recent months, his spot in the lineup could potentially be justified by the rash of injuries the Bruins have suffered, but even the back ups of back ups have been putting up numbers better than Beleskey.

Beleskey has played 14 games this season and doesn’t have a single point to show for it. Peter Cehlarik has only played two games this season yet managed an assist and a goal during his brief playing time.

The Bruins have shown that they have a lot of potential when healthy, but they need to start recognizing when something isn’t working.
