The Eastern Conference bottom-dweller Washington Wizards attempted to end the Celtics early season win streak on a cold November night. However, the Celtics outshot the Wizards winning 140-133 in TD Garden. This was the first game since 1992 that the Celtics as a franchise had scored 140 points.
The Boston Celtics’ young star Jayson Tatum bounced back tonight after going 1-18 in the game prior against the Dallas Mavericks. Tatum went 9/20 scoring 23 points along with four assists and three rebounds. He seemed to play more team basketball instead of hero ball in this game.
Every Celtics starter scored double figures and Kemba Walker led all starters with 25 points. Six bench players made an impact for the C’s but most notable was rookie Carsen Edwards‘ 18-point effort. Edwards looked confident in his decision making and made big shots throughout the game.
Without a true “big” the Celtics still outrebounded a bigger Wizards team 44-36. They’ve had no problem playing “small ball” with Brad Stevens featuring lineups where even 6’6 “Pigpen” Grant Williams plays center. It’s too early to say whether something magical is going on for the Celtics but in a weak Eastern Conference, they seem to be a serious contender to make it far in the playoffs.
Wizards star Bradley Beal was doing everything he could to propel them to victory. Beal scorched the Celtics for 44 points on 17-27 shooting. It was a very loud 44 points and he was in a zone during various points in the game.
It’s clear the Celtics will be able to “survive” without Gordon Hayward. They sure as hell should with the talent still on the roster.
Next Game: At Golden State tomorrow night at 10:30pm ET
