BOSTON, MA — The Bruins demolish the Capitals at home tonight 7-3, and it’s easy to see why Boston has Washington’s number over the last few years.
As the two best teams in the entire NHL came into the game as the two favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference, the Capitals showed that they have a lot of work to do to live up to expectations. Coming into the game just 1-12-4 against Washington since 2014, the Bruins are now 2-12-4. A record that symbolizes true dominance over the Capitals.

Obviously, this is making light to the Bruins dreadful record against Washington. D.C. has owned Boston for the last five years and tonight seemed like some sort of revenge. This was the first time in the last eight meetings at the TD Garden that the Bruins have beaten Washington. Scoring four goals in the first period, Boston came out swinging.

Jake DeBrusk broke open the scoring during a second chance opportunity, scoring his ninth goal of the season. Brad Marchand added his 19th goal of the season later in the fourth. Just 27 seconds later, Anders Bjork added his 10th goal of the season as the young gun has been playing out of his mind lately.

Patrice Bergeron added his 14th goal of the season on a powerplay towards the end of the first. All of a sudden, the Caps world was rocked. The blowout continued in the second period as Charlie Coyle scored his 100th career goal and the embarrassment continued.

Alex Ovechkin would add a goal near the end of the second in what was most likely just a sympathy goal from the Bruins defense. Tuukka Rask shut down the Caps, stopping 40 shots on 43 shots on goal.
The Bruins did lose Torey Krug for the rest of the game after this late first period hit by Tom Wilson.

Things got heated late in the third as Tom Wilson knocked Pastrnak in the jingle bells. Wilson continues to be one of the dirtiest players in the NHL when he started a major brawl that involved David Pastrnak and a referee. Wilson was ejected.

David Krejci added insult to injury late in the third, netting his eighth goal of the year. Therefore, the Bruins allowed another sympathy goal from Washington. Bergeron would add another as the empty net for the blowout just looked too good. 7-3 would be the finals and the game was never that close.

22-7-9 now on the season, the Bruins routed the Caps and got a little revenge on the shellacking that they’ve handed Boston throughout the past few years. The Eastern Conference playoffs will be fun to watch!
