Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts: Week 7 Preview

The Houston Texans will travel to Indianapolis on Sunday, October 20, 2019, to meet the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 7 of the 2019 NFL season. The Texans come into this week 4-2 while the Colts are 3-2 following a bye week. The Colts lead the all-time series 24-8 and have won the last three out of four meetings. However, the Texans are slightly favored to win this game by 53.5%.

Houston comes into Week 7 following a 31-24 win at Kansas City last week and is looking for their third win a row, having only lost to the Saints in week one and the Panthers in week four. The Texans have recorded nearly 400 offensive yards per game this season and have allowed 356 yards on defense.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson has 140 of 201 completed passes for 1,644 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions, plus a 107.9 rating on the season.

Carlos Hyde has carried the ball 99 times for 426 yards and three touchdowns, and DeAndre Hopkins has 40 receptions for 402 yards and two touchdowns. Whitney Mercilus holds the team record so far with five sacks, while Tashaun Gipson has recorded two interceptions.

Deshaun Watson passed for 280 yards and a touchdown last week, in addition to rushing for 42 yards and two more touchdowns. Watson is the second-fastest player to reach 7,500 career passing after just 29 games. He has at least two passing touchdowns and a 100-plus rating in the past four out five games on the road. In Watson’s two career games versus the Colts, he has recorded 642 passing yards, three touchdowns, and a 101.1 rating

Running back Carlos Hyde recorded a season-high 116 rush yards a touchdown last week versus the Chiefs, his first 100-yard game with Houston.

Duke Johnson also had a touchdown catch in Week 6, his first with the Texans, and recorded 104 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown in his only career game versus Indianapolis when he played for Cleveland. 

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins posted nine catches for 55 yards last week and is looking for his 10th game in a row with five or more catches; that’s the second-longest such streak in the NFL at the moment, only behind Michael Thomas. Hopkins has 100-plus receiving yards in the last three of five games on the road and is going for his fourth in a row against the Colts with at least one touchdown catch. 

Will Fuller will be going for his third game in a row with at five or more catches. Fuller recorded a touchdown catch in the last match against Indianapolis.

Tight End Darren Fells also posted career-high stats last week with six catches for 69 yards. 

On the defensive side, Whitney Mercilus has had a sack in his last two of three games on the road and is the only player in the AFC with five sacks and an interception this season.  Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu also recorded a sack and a forced fumble in Week 6, while safety Tashaun Gipson is aiming for his third game in a row with an interception.

On the other side of the field, the Colts are coming into Week 7 following a bye week. Their last game, Week 5, saw them emerge victorious over the Chiefs, 19-13. Indianapolis has recorded 344 offensive yards per game this season and has allowed 355.2 offensive yards.

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett has completed 108 out of 167 passes covering 1062 yards and ten touchdowns and has recorded three interceptions for 95.0 rating.  Marlon Mack has posted 101 carries for 470 yard and two touchdowns this season, while Ty Hilton has 24 carries for 232 yards and four touchdowns so far this season.  Denico Autry has posted two and a half sacks on the season, and Clayton Geathers and Malik Hooker both have one interception so far this season.  Kicker Adam Vinatieri has successfully kicked 9 out of 12 PAT and eight out eleven field goals coming into week 7.

Jacoby Brissett recorded 151 passing yards and rushed for a touchdown in Week 5 and is going for his third game in a row at home with 250 or more passing yards and two or more touchdowns.

Running back Marlon Mack recorded 132 rushing yards in Week 5 and has recorded a rushing touchdown in his last three of four games at home, as well as the last two of three games versus a divisional opponent. Mack will be going for his third game in a row against Houston in which he finds the end zone.

Running back Nyheim Hines recorded four catches for a team-high 76 yards in Week 5 and had nine catches for 63 yards.

Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has posted a touchdown catch in his last three of four games and is going for his sixth game in a row at home with five or more catches. In the last meeting between the two teams, he recorded nine catches for 199 yards. Additionally, he recorded 115 or more receiving yards in the last four of five games against Houston.

Receiver Zach Pascal is going for his third game in a row versus Houston with five or more catches, 50 or more receiving yards, and a touchdown catch.

Chester Rogers has posted a touchdown catch in two of the last three games at home and is looking for his third game in a row against Houston with five or more catches.

Tight end Jack Doyle has recorded a touchdown catch in two of his last three games at home, and he had a touchdown catch in his last game again Houston in 2017.

Eric Ebron is looking to put his third game against Houston with at least one touchdown catch on the books, and his fourth divisional contest in a row with a touchdown catch.

On the other side of the ball, linebacker Darius Leonard is going for his third game in a row versus Houston with 12 or more tackles and a sack. Since Leonard entered the league in 2018, he has led the AFC in tackles. Defensive end Justin Houston recorded two tackles for a loss plus a sack in Week 5 and is aiming for his third in a row against Houston with a sack. Denico Autry is looking for his third game in a row against Houston with two or more sacks. Safety George Odum posted six tackles and his first career forced fumble the Chiefs in Week 5. Finally, Cornerback Kenny Moore had his first sack of the season in Week 5 and had a sack in the last meeting between the two teams.
