With the start of NHL training camps set to begin in about 4 weeks time, many NHL players are still in need of new contracts and that sense of stability that undoubtedly comes with being an unrestricted free agent at seasons end. Let’s take a look at the top-5 remaining unrestricted free-agents, who are still up for grabs in mid-August.
The Colorado Avalanche will begin their six-game pre-season on home ice on September 17 versus the Vegas Golden Knights, giving GM Joe Sakic and Coach Jared Bednar a chance to test how the off-season changes are going to pan out. A lot has changed across the ice for the Colorado Avalanche, and it is hard to speculate just how those changes are going to pan out for their club.
It’s only been 7 games since Isaiah Thomas’ return and the honeymoon phase with fans and local media is already wearing off. I get it, he hasn’t played in 11 months and he’s going to have to find that groove again and work his way back and that’s all well and good, but not here and certainly not at this point in the season.

The Lakers and Jazz hold the 8th and 9th playoff spots in the conference and are only separated by two games.
The Portland Trail Blazers possess one of the best backcourts in the NBA but after a catastrophic ending last year, will it be enough to prevent a season of regression?
Well, I guess it’s a foregone conclusion that the Golden State Warriors will win the title. No sense in watching the NBA this year. As long as they get past LeBron and the Lakers they should demolish whoever comes from the East. Right?
