State of MLB: Prospect Hoarding

It has become a recurrent theme in trade negotiations between contending and rebuilding teams: “Prospect X is untouchable.” Teams have become increasingly reluctant to trade their top prospects in an effort to inch closer to a championship. Front offices are trying to do the same thing: construct a roster that is filled with young and talented players at below-market value contracts. This philosophy of risk-aversion, prospect accumulation, and player development is having a negative impact on Major League Baseball.

Now Is The Perfect Time To Get And Trade Bo Bichette

After trading Eric Sogard to Tampa Bay on Sunday, Toronto wasted no time in calling up über-prospect Bo Bichette, who was actually pulled from the Triple-A game he was playing for Buffalo.

Such was Toronto’s anxiety to get its last shinning youngin’ to the Majors, and such should be yours to make him available to suitors in case you happen to have him in your fantasy team or are still able to acquire him in case he’s still free out there.

Galvin: Put Protective Netting in Every Ballpark

The 2019 MLB season has come with a record number of home runs as well as a record number of strikeouts. However, many people forget the long plate appearances that this season is producing. With these long plate appearances come a record number of foul balls going into the stands.

Where Will Stroman Land?

Marcus Stroman pitched in what was most likely his final game in a Toronto Blue Jays jersey on Wednesday, and his trade stock rose even farther. In his final start for the Blue Jays against the Cleveland Indians, Stroman was very effective, going seven strong innings and only surrendering five hits, one run (earned), and walking one. His offense didn’t do him any favors, as the Blue Jays lost 4-0. Following the game and into Thursday, he tweeted and retweeted several tweets about his appreciation to the Toronto fans. About a week or so ago, he also took out any reference to the Blue Jays from his Twitter page. Take it with a grain of salt, but he also tweeted something that could be a clue to where he ends up, or maybe he even knows something. So at this point, the question isn’t IF he’s traded but WHERE. So let me tell you where I think he ends up.

7&7: First Call For The Second Half

DJ LaMehieu – Second Base – New York Yankees
Hopefully, La Machine thanks me after the end of the season with all the promotion I’ve been getting him. Just like the weather this weekend the man stayed hot. He batted .423 this week and has only been hitless in one game since the end of the all-star break, and 27 of his last 29 games.

Traveling Tom’s MLB All Star Game Experience

16 miles. Two days. An amazing experience. The 2019 All-Star Game provided a great lineup of things to do for fans anywhere from 10 to 100… and even the youngsters got a thrill out of the mascots there! While I was not credentialed to go to this event (I hope my writing can get to the right people at some point), I had a great time experiencing the nation focusing on one city and one event. Cleveland had a couple years to prepare for this and they knocked it out of the park. Of course, not everyone was satisfied, but that’s not realistic. Let me tell you what I got out of this great event.

Team Grades: American League East

New York Yankees 57-30, 1st place +7.5 GB
Positives:

The offense is what held the team together. You would expect without Didi Gregorius to start the season, followed by Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar, all on the IL, players like Gio Urshela, Cameron Maybin, and Clint Frazier all stepped up. The team had set a new record for consecutive games with a home run with 31. They have three hitters selected to the All-Star Game (Gary Sanchez, DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres) and five total players (Aroldis Chapman, Masahiro Tanaka).
