After finishing with the worst record in the majors in 2019 and the third-worst last year, the Detroit Tigers drastically improved in 2021. Behind controversial new managerial hire A.J. Hinch, the Tigers finished at 77-85 after losing 114 games in 2019.

Pinch-hitting for your usual Wednesday Locks, Stacks, and Barrels host, I’m more than happy to attempt to help you win some cash. There are some weather concerns for this evening, so I’ve ignored players from those games. Recheck weather reports prior to setting your lineups. With that said, let’s get into this week’s edition of Locks, Stacks, and Barrels.

The Detroit Tigers’ Struggles, Summed Up in 500 Words

Tiger fans like me know that in early June, this season almost seems to be a lost cause. It’s just a matter of time before this team will sell some assets in return for top-100 prospects… or so, it seems. Fans aren’t thinking too positively of this as two years since the J.D. Martinez trade, only Dawel Lugo has made the Major League club. This has people questioning Al Avila, and seeing what he will do this time around. As for now, let’s break down the struggles in 500 words or less (Oops, I’ve already used 96!)

Stream Machine: May 21-23

Rules are around for a reason. I have a few rules when I look at streamer picks, not only for myself but for when I do this article as well. I don’t pick Rockies pitchers. I don’t pick pitchers pitching in Colorado visiting. I typically don’t pick prospects pitching in their first game up unless they’re elite talents facing an excellent matchup. And I don’t pick pitchers coming off of injury unless they’re a number one or two fantasy starter facing an excellent matchup, which you normally wouldn’t get in a streamer option anyway. Well, I decided to pick Steven Matz for us all anyway, and he proceeded to get decimated by the Marlins. THE MARLINS?!? He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched, though he at least got six strikeouts out of the ordeal. It just goes to show you, kids: follow the rules, especially the ones you put on yourself. They’re usually there for a reason.
