Wow is all I can say. As a person who lives in Canada and has people who said “This is the most important moment in Canadian Sports since the Toronto Blue Jays were in the World Series 26 years ago”, I cannot state how much this championship means to the country of Canada and it’s loyal and well deserving fans. The raw emotion spewing from “Jurassic Park”, the Raptors fan hangout area in Toronto was electric and fascinating to experience. All I can say to this championship is “Oh Canada”! In this article we will go over to the journey the Raptors took to get here and the trials they experienced, through the perspective of a Canadian.
The Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers both prioritized the present over the future this season. By sacrificing continuity and steady progression for star power, both have transformed their rosters over the last 12 months to become true contenders. And after a chaotic six games between the two Eastern Conference heavyweights, they are each four quarters away from triumph or disaster.
What an incredible story and ride for the 24-year-old Pascal Siakam, in his third season in the NBA after being a first-round pick (2016 Draft – Pick 27th) out of New Mexico State. After a solid career with the Aggies that saw him win WAC Freshman of the Year and then, the following season, win WAC Player of the Year before he decided to forgo his last two years and enter the NBA draft. His rookie season in the league was all over the place to me as he saw action in 55 games total and actually started 38 games that saw him average 4ppg. But he also saw a lot of playing time with the Raptors’ G-League affiliate Raptors 905 where they won the then D-League Champion with Pascal being named the Finals MVP in the process.
