With the preseason well underway and the opening kickoff not far away, we continue to take a look at teams in the NFC, which is always competitive. But after a bizarre 2017 (see Case Keenum leading the Vikings almost to the Super Bowl), teams may return to playing more according to their mean, which might not be good news for the team in today’s column, the Detroit Lions.
The Pittsburgh Steelers look to rebound after a disappointing end to an otherwise successful campaign in 2017 after being bounced in the AFC Divisional Round by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers offensive core remains in tact, but the problematic defensive woes may not be remedied just yet. The clock is ticking on franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger, and the Steelers need to utilize the time remaining in his deteriorating body before possibly falling back into the cellar of the league.
The Arizona Cardinals had an up and down season last year. They had a rash of injuries including their star player David Johnson. Can they rebound this season from 8-8 last year and 7-8-1 in 2016 to reclaim a spot in the playoffs?

There seemed to be a trend leaning toward wide receiver dominance given the consistency of the guys at the top, but the elite play of the NFL’s best running backs over the past few seasons quickly put a stop to that. When preparing for your draft, you want to separate your running backs into tiers so you can find the best values without sacrificing production. The Cleveland Browns’ infamously ugly 2017 campaign felt like a punctuation for an organization that has been littered with dysfunction and poor play since its (re)inception in 1999. The Browns have won just four contests since 2015, and the team knows it needs to push harder this season in a division that features far fewer top-tier threats than in years past. After some massive roster shake-ups and multiple early round picks, the Browns look to rewrite the narrative of a franchise that buried itself in the cellar of the NFL and hasn’t seen much light since.
The Cowboys dealt with injuries to starting linebacker Sean Lee, a 6-game suspension to starting RB Ezekiel Elliot, and a 4-game suspension to DT/DE David Irving. With so much that happened last season, they will look to put 2017 behind them and move forward to get this team over the hump this upcoming season.
