The Markelle Fultz era in Philadelphia may be coming to an end. While the Philadelphia 76ers have publicly said that they remain committed to Fultz, and Fultz’s agent Raymond Brothers has denied reports of Fultz wanting a trade, there continues to be whispers that the Sixers may be ready to part ways from the guard. Keith Pompey of Philly.com reported over the weekend that Philadelphia could consider trading Fultz in the near future.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets will meet for the second time this year, with the Lakers getting the W in their earlier match-up this season. Denver was victorious when the sides played each other in preseason, however. While they allowed Los Angeles to dominate the first half, the Nuggets were able to fight back from an 18 point deficit at the start of the second half. Poorly timed turnovers and fouls late in the game gave them just enough to escape with a 113-111 win.
Hope everyone had a great Holiday and had a chance to catch some of the exciting NBA action that was on over the last week. We had buzzer beaters, comeback wins and everything else in-between. This week should be equally exciting as we get into the key part of the NBA regular season as teams start to take shape and look to position themselves for playoff seeding.
Dwight Howard probably didn’t have the best Thanksgiving weekend this year. At least not after trending on Twitter as the top result worldwide throughout Friday evening.
The NBA’s Most Improved Player award is typically given to players who make a big statistical jump from their previous seasons. Last season, Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo took home the NBA’s Most Improved Player award after having a breakout season. Oladipo set career-highs in points (23.1), field goal percentage (.477), three-point percentage (.371), rebounds (5.2), assists (4.3), and steals (2.4). He also led the Pacers to 48 wins, the fifth seed, and a near-upset of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs, ultimately losing in seven games.
You know those moments that have happened throughout NBA history?
“Havlicek stole the ball!” Or the time when Magic Johnson, as a rookie, started at center in place of an injured Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – at that point, arguably the GOAT – in the NBA Finals and absolutely dominated, capped off by using Kareem’s signature skyhook. Michael Jordan on Fathers’ Day. MJ again, in 1998, hitting that shot, the shot that was supposed to be the last one of his career. LeBron James leading his hometown team back from down 3-1. Reggie Miller: eight points in nine seconds. There’s a level of perfection to all of those moments that makes them as memorable and legendary as they are.
LeBron James will make his return to Cleveland tonight. This will be his first visit to Quicken Loans Arena since joining the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency this past summer. LeBron was booed mercilessly in his first return game against the Cleveland Cavaliers as a member of the Miami Heat in 2010. His return this time is sure to be different for one big reason, LeBron kept his promise.
Just when it looked as if the Washington Wizards were improving, they dropped two straight games at home. They have obviously been one of the most disappointing teams this season, sitting with a record of 5-11. Despite having a talented roster, the team has looked listless on both ends of the floor so far. As a result, the Wizards have made everyone – including John Wall and Bradley Beal – available.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat were both coming off losses going into Sunday night’s game. The Heat had just lost a close one against the Indiana Pacers, while the Lakers had gotten blown out by the Orlando Magic the night before this match-up. This was LeBron James’ first encounter with Miami Heat in a Lakers uniform. However, the game was a heavily one-sided affair.
Happy Holidays basketball fans! We are moving along in this NBA season and are already in week 6. Some teams’ seasons are taking shape the way we thought they would, while others are headed in a totally unexpected direction. Could this be the week that they put together some wins and get back on track? Let’s take a look at some of the most intriguing match-ups.
The 2010-11 season was the first year that I got really into college basketball. Sure, I’d watched a few games in previous seasons, but I had always been an NBA fan primarily, and almost exclusively.
