Last season, the Miami Heat missed the playoffs for the third time in the past five seasons. In order to improve their chances for this upcoming season, the Heat acquired all-star Jimmy Butler in a sign and trade from Philadelphia 76ers. Miami traded Josh Richardson to the 76ers for Butler and also moved Hassan Whiteside to the Portland Trail Blazers for Meyers Leonard. With Butler in the fold, the Heat are likely to be better.
Dwyane Wade may be retired, but that hasn’t stop him from following the Miami Heat. So far, the three-time NBA champion has been impressed by what he has seen from Heat rookie Tyler Herro.
With training camp a month away, Miami Heat forward Kelly Olynyk picked up an injury Wednesday night.
While playing for the Canadian national team in a FIBA exhibition game against Nigeria, the Heat big man slipped on a wet spot on the court and had to be helped off the floor and brought to the locker room area.
In 2010, the Miami Heat pulled off the biggest free agency coup in NBA history signing Lebron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade in Miami. If you scrolled through Twitter shortly after the selection was made, you would see the disappointment in some fans. Most were expecting the Heat to draft either Kevin Porter Jr or Sekou Doumboya.

After acquiring both Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris during the 2018-19 season, the Philadelphia 76ers believed they had a great shot at an NBA championship. However, those hopes were squashed with Kawhi Leonard’s lucky bounce at the buzzer in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Soon after, both Butler and Harris were headed towards free agency with their futures in Philadelphia becoming uncertain.

Last Thursday, Chris Paul was traded to Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal that sent Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets. With the Thunder likely rebuilding, Paul is reportedly seeking a move to a contender. A team that has been mentioned as a top trade destination is the Miami Heat, but a possible OKC-Miami deal will be complicated, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

It’s been fourteen days since NBA Free Agency started and we’ve already seen plenty of stars joining forces. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are joining forces with the Brooklyn Nets, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George with the Los Angeles Clippers, and now Russell Westbrook and James Harden with the Houston Rockets. The league has changed since the 2000s when stars were just trying to compete against each other.
