The penultimate three-race stint of the IndyCar season kicked off on Sunday afternoon from Portland International Raceway. Pato O’Ward of Arrow-McLaren entered this weekend with the series points lead after a couple of weeks off.
World Wide Technology Raceway hosted the final IndyCar race of the year under the lights. With the Gateway Arch as a backdrop piece, the track originally named after the structure is one of America’s hidden gem circuits for years now.
Currently, the IndyCar Series is in the middle of a month-long hiatus, before they hit the streets of Nashville. However, with that in mind, a number of drivers on Tuesday were at Weather-Tech Raceway at Laguna Seca. This was a test session before the race there later this year. Josef Newgarden was fastest in this session at the track set to host the penultimate round of the season.
After four straight races of soul-crushing defeats, Team Penske finally got their first IndyCar win of 2021. More importantly, it comes for their top driver in points, Josef Newgarden.
For what is now the third race in a row, a Team Penske driver had a chance to win a race. Once again, failed to find one of their four cars in victory lane, and again it was in soul-crushing fashion. Alex Palou would take advantage of this heartbreak to propel himself to his second win of the year and back into the points lead. Road America recap and more right here.
