Stingy defensive play has become the identity of the New York Islanders, a team who is looking to make it to at least the third round of the playoffs for the third consecutive season. But as their season-opening 13-game road trip ends, the defense is the problem.
Coming off a wild journey that ended in a postseason defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final, the Dallas Stars were eager to get back to the playoffs in 2020-2021. Instead, Dallas did anything but that, finishing fifth in a newly-aligned Central Division with a 23-19-14 record.

If we were to tell you last November that the Stars would be three wins away from a Stanley Cup championship (their second one in franchise history) you’d probably have an eyebrow (or two) raised along with a friendly chuckle. Well, hockey fans, here we are in the heart of September, and the Stars along with the Lightning are the two remaining teams mired in a heat-of-the-night battle to hoist Lord Stanley’s proverbial mug.
“You’ll be counting stars”. “When you wish upon a star”. “I’m a Starboy”. Take your pick on the pop-cultural references, because any one of them can definitely be applied to the talented crop of players who dawn the green, white, and black from deep in the heart of Texas.
